Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ) launched his campaign against Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) Friday.

Kim hosted his first official campaign event at a brewery in South Jersey in front of some 250 supporters. Menendez was indicted in September on bribery charges in connection with New Jersey businessmen and the Egyptian government. Kim was among the first to call on him to resign. The next day, Kim announced he would be running against the senator.

Menendez has pleaded not guilty to all charges. While he hasn't committed to a reelection bid, Menendez has refused to resign from his seat early.

“It doesn’t have to be this broken politics where you just have people putting their own personal ambition ahead of what’s good for this country,” Kim said at the Friday event. “It’s about being a decent human being — a decent human being that treats other people with respect.”

On his campaign website, Kim laments that 84% of New Jersey residents believe the state's politicians are corrupt.

“We cannot jeopardize the Senate or compromise our integrity any longer,” Kim wrote in his announcement. “Help me build a movement to restore faith in our democracy.”

Kim has outraised Menendez, bringing in $1.2 million between July 1 and Sept 30. Meanwhile, Menendez raised $919,000 and has only raised $130,000 between the time his criminal charges were released and Sept. 30.

During Kim's third reelection in the House, he raised more than $7 million.
