When the news media or Democrats call a statement “misinformation” or “disinformation,” it means they want to censor that statement. This is such an important idea to the modern Democrat and media establishment that the Biden administration even appointed a disinformation czar, and many news outlets hired “disinformation” reporters.
The big idea here is that misinformation and disinformation are not merely false claims but that they are knowingly false and harmful. The Biden administration believes that justifies it to lean on tech companies and news outlets to remove the information.
That already sounds a little at odds with the whole idea of free speech, but it gets worse.
What the Biden administration, Big Tech, and the media call “misinformation” and “disinformation” are often perfectly true, verifiable facts that the Biden administration finds politically inconvenient.
The latest example is from President Joe Biden’s old press secretary, Jen Psaki, who declared it “misinformation” that Biden checked his watch during a funeral for fallen soldiers.
Psaki’s account in her book is false, and the reports she calls “misinformation” are true.
This is standard fare for the “misinformation” police.
Ben Collins, a pioneering disinformation cop, has been pretty upfront about this: If the verified facts come from people he dislikes, the news media should ignore them.
Expert opinions are targeted for removal as disinformation when they violate the narrative.
When the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop, with unflattering information, were made public, media and Big Tech folks called it misinformation. That meant: This will harm Joe Biden.

So it’s clear what Joe Biden’s team is doing here: trying to cut off criticism of the administration by branding opposing views and uncomfortable facts as outside the protection of free speech.
Let’s hope that by now, the news media has learned not to play this dishonest game.
