Hillsdale College, a private Christian liberal arts school in Michigan, terminated its relationship with a Florida charter school after its principal resigned following a parental complaint that sixth graders were exposed to pornography through Renaissance art, including Michelangelo's statue of David.

Other classical works in the lesson exposed to students at the Tallahassee Classical School included Michelangelo's "Creation of Adam" painting and Botticelli's "Birth of Venus."

"This drama around teaching Michelangelo's 'David' sculpture, one of the most important works of art in existence, has become a distraction from, and a parody of, the actual aims of classical education," Hillsdale spokeswoman Emily Stack Davis said in a Thursday statement.

"Of course, Hillsdale's K-12 art curriculum includes Michelangelo’s 'David' and other works of art that depict the human form."

The complaint originated from the Tallahassee Classical School, which was licensed with the college's classical education curriculum, according to a report.

That license has been "revoked and will expire at the end of the school year," according to Davis.
