Some Bronx residents are promoting masking up again as the New York State Health Department informed locals that cases are supposedly rising in the borough.

The seven-day average for COVID-19 cases has risen from 2.1% on July 21 to 11.8% on Aug. 21, according to a report, and the uptick coincides with children heading back to school and the encroachment of fall weather.

SOCIAL SECURITY UPDATE: DIRECT PAYMENT WORTH UP TO $4,555 GOES OUT TO MILLIONS IN ONE DAY

"We get all kinds of diseases ... they come and they go, and that's just part of life," Peter Cordero, a Bronx local, said. "When I get into crowded places, and there's a lot of people, I definitely put on a mask."

"I don't want to get sick."

He will always mask up when he feels like he is at risk, Cordero said.

Another resident, Lorenzo Rodriguez, echoed Cordero.

"I put [a mask] on when I go into a bus or a store, honestly anywhere I put it on," he said.

It upsets him that more people are not wearing a mask, according to Rodriguez.

"Sometimes I see 50 people on the bus and only one or two people have their masks on, even though we're crammed in there like animals," he said.

The only way Rodriguez will take off his mask is if it becomes illegal to wear one, he said.

"If it's legal, I'm not gonna stop wearing it," he said.

The seven-day average for cases was 672 as of Aug. 14, up from May's 286 reported cases, the New York City Department of Health said.

Free testing kits will be allocated for staff and students returning to New York City schools, the report noted.
