A recent ad from a super PAC that aired in New Hampshire questions President Joe Biden’s electability, encouraging him to pass the reins to Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN).
The ad from the Pass the Torch PAC begins with a statement from former President John F. Kennedy's Inaugural Address in 1961.

“Let the word go forth from this time and place to friend and foe alike that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans,” Kennedy said, speaking about the legacy of the American Revolution.
Phillips built on the phrase “pass the torch,” commonly used to describe passing down power to politicians' successors.
“2024 is different. Trump is winning,” the ad continues, displaying a New York Times-Siena College poll showing former President Donald Trump beating Biden in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, and Nevada, all swing states that are key in the 2024 election. “It's time to pass the torch.”
The latest Emerson College-WHDH poll of New Hampshire voters shows Biden leading Trump in a 2024 hypothetical presidential matchup 47% to 42%.
Pass the Torch is backed by Steve Schmidt, a former adviser to the late Sen. John McCain, aiming to raise millions, with over $1 million spent on initial ads, according to the Washington Post. Phillips said on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that the former Republican operative helped get him started but “is not affiliated” with his campaign.
Phillips launched his Democratic presidential bid last month in New Hampshire, telling Biden to pass the torch "to a new generation of American leaders.”

“I am the Democratic candidate who can win. It is time for the torch to be passed to a new generation of American leaders,” Phillips says in the ad.
Phillips has aired ads in states Biden is polling poorly in, including those that carried him to the White House in 2020, such as Michigan and New Hampshire.
