A super PAC supporting former Vice President Mike Pence's presidential campaign launched a new ad on Thursday attacking former President Donald Trump's perceived friendliness with dictators.

"America doesn't stand with thugs and dictators — we confront them. Or at least we used to," the narrator says in the ad while images of Trump shaking hands with Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un are shown.

The ad, titled "Strength," was commissioned by the super PAC Committed to America and is slated to run in Iowa, a crucial early nominating state in the GOP primary race that Pence will need a strong showing in if he is to overtake his former running mate Trump.

During the ad, headlines of Trump calling Putin a "genius" and "savvy" for his invasion of Ukraine are shown, as are social media posts of Trump congratulating Kim Jong Un.

The 30-second spot, released Thursday morning, also shows an image of the Pence quote, "Weakness arouses evil," while the former vice president is heard saying, "There can be no room in the leadership of the Republican Party for apologists for Putin. There can only be room for champions of freedom."

Last week, Pence became the first GOP 2024 hopeful to visit Ukraine and meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Despite his direct shots at Trump, Pence faces an uphill battle to defeat him for the GOP presidential nomination; he currently polls at 5.7%, compared to Trump's 52.4%, in a RealClearPolitics polling average.
