Detroit police have made an arrest connected to the killing of Detroit synagogue President Samantha Woll.

In a statement, Chief James White cautioned that the arrest does not signal the end of the investigation and that further details will be kept confidential to protect the integrity of the investigation.

"As part of my continuing commitment to transparency in this matter, I am sharing with the community that a suspect has been taken into custody for the murder of Samantha Woll," White said. "While this is an encouraging development in our desire to bring closure for Ms. Woll’s family, it does not represent the conclusion of our work in this case."

"Investigators will be continuing their work with the Wayne County Prosecutors Office until the conclusion of this investigation," he added.

Woll was found stabbed to death outside her home last month. The timing of her death and the war in Gaza and Israel immediately raised suspicions that the murder may have been motivated by her Jewish identity. However, police have previously said that there is "no evidence" that the attack was a hate crime.

"No evidence has surfaced suggesting that this crime was motivated by antisemitism," White said on Oct. 22. "I again ask the community to remain patient while our investigators and law enforcement partners continue their work. Everything that can be done to bring this matter to closure is being called into service."
