It is news that is sure to be welcomed by the throngs of people who are tired of the race-obsessed society the nation has become. Earlier this week, the Philadelphia Police Department fired its first-ever DEI officer, Leslie Marant, Philadelphia’s WPVI reported.
Marant was hired by former Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw in April 2022, according to multiple sources. It was considered an odd move at the time by Outlaw, especially since the city was in the middle of a wave of violent crime. Less than four months after setting a Philadelphia record for most homicides in a single year, Outlaw chose to pander to left-wing politics and hire Marant as DEI officer. Moreover, Philadelphia would go on to have the second-highest total for homicides in its history in 2022, recording over 500 murders for the second consecutive year.

Marant’s position as a DEI officer did nothing to stop criminals from harming Philadelphia’s residents. In addition to a record number of homicides, the city experienced a record-high number of carjackings in 2022. Perhaps instead of worrying about politics, the police commissioner should have focused on her main job: ensuring the city’s residents were protected from being victims of crime.

Moreover, Outlaw decided to hire a DEI officer for a police force that wasn’t needed even when applying the strictest of left-wing social justice standards given its demographics. The percentage of Philadelphia’s police force that is black is slightly higher than the percentage of the city’s black population, according to a previous report by WPVI. All it did was expand the city’s bureaucracy.
Unfortunately, while the absurdity of DEI officers is evident to most logical, rational, and intelligent people, the city’s government seems intent on repeating its mistake and wasting resources as it is looking for Marant’s replacement. According to WPVI, Marant’s firing had more to do with the city’s change in mayoral administrations on Jan. 3 than the city government’s realization of the pointlessness of DEI offices. One could only hope that Philadelphia’s new mayor has enough sense to make a positive change and eliminate the position.
