Animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals announced a limited edition Halloween costume taking aim at Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) for admitting in her memoir, No Going Back, that she had shot and killed her dog Cricket.

PETA’s “Cricket’s Revenge” costume features Noem holding a rifle while wearing a blood-splattered white collared shirt and red jacket. The mask is of Noem’s face with devil horns and a camouflage hat imprinted with the words “Noem: Puppy Killer.”

The costume features a stuffed dog wearing a bandana that reads “Take a Bite out of Cruelty” while it is seen biting the neck of the costume owner.

“Anyone cruel enough to blow a rambunctious puppy’s brains out instead of attempting to train her or find her a more responsible guardian is scarier than any horror movie villain,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk said in a release.

Newkirk added, “With PETA’s Kristi Noem costume, dog lovers everywhere can strike terror in their friends as the most ghoulish monster at their Halloween party.”

The costume is available for preorder at the PETA Shop online with a retail price of $79.99.

Noem has been under criticism for revealing the story about her family dog, who she claimed was “vicious” and had “massacred” a neighbor’s animals. She said the dog was “aggressive” and had attacked her. She insisted the story was proof that she was “not afraid to make hard decisions.”

The controversy hits Noem at a time when she has been speculated to be a possible VP pick for former President Donald Trump in his 2024 presidential election effort.
