Authorities are still tracking escaped inmate Danelo Cavalcante across Pennsylvania, and hundreds of law enforcement officials are contributing to the manhunt that has continued for 12 days.
Cavalcante, 34, escaped from Chester County Prison on Aug. 31 by pushing himself onto the prison roof. He was convicted of stabbing Deborah Brandao, 33, his ex-girlfriend, to death in front of her two young children in 2021 and was serving a life sentence for murder without parole.

Here is a timeline of what is known about Cavalcante's escape and evasion of capture.
Aug. 31
Cavalcante escaped around 9 a.m. on Aug. 31. Investigators said his escape was undetected for over an hour.
He broke out of the prison by scaling a wall and climbing over razor wire that was deemed sufficient by security advisers and installed on the roof after another inmate, Igor Bolte, escaped in a similar way. Bolte, however, was captured about five minutes after escaping.
Police made it clear from the beginning that Cavalcante is considered extremely dangerous and that anyone who spots him should avoid approaching him and call 911.
Before escaping, he was set to be transferred to a state correctional institution in four weeks.
Sept. 1
The U.S. Marshals Service joined the search. Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said during a news conference that authorities did not believe anyone was helping Cavalcante evade capture.
Labor Day weekend
On Sept. 2, a residential surveillance camera captured Cavalcante about a mile and a half from the prison. He was wearing pants, a light-colored T-shirt, and white sneakers. At the time, he had long black curly hair and was wearing a backpack.
Officials set up a perimeter around Pocopson Township, a residential neighborhood near the Chester County Prison, where Cavalcante had been sighted multiple times over the weekend. A resident reportedly saw Cavalcante in a creek bed behind their house in Pennsbury Township, which is several miles east of a botanic garden called Longwood Gardens.
Late on Sept. 4, images of the escaped convict were captured on trail cameras on Longwood Gardens property around 8:21 p.m. and again at 9:33 p.m., according to Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens.
Sept. 5
Bivens said the Longwood Gardens camera footage was reviewed early in the morning of Sept. 5.
Because of this, authorities widened their 2-mile search to south of their original perimeter. In an effort to draw Cavalcante out, law enforcement broadcast a message from his mother in Portuguese from speakers in cars and helicopters. In the message, she asked her son to "surrender peacefully."
Brandao's family has been barricaded inside their homes under constant protection since the search for Cavalcante, Ryan said.
Sept. 6
Officials held a news conference on Sept. 6 and released security footage of Cavalcante's escape. It was revealed that his escape took place while the prisoner was outside in the exercise yard.
Chester County Prison acting warden Howard Holland had previously said the officer in the tower who did not see him escape had been put on administrative leave. Holland said during the conference that the razor wire was determined to be insufficient as the prison works to secure more physical barriers and increase the staff.
Kennett Consolidated School District closed schools on Sept. 5 and extended the closure into Sept. 6, and Longwood Gardens was also closed on Sept. 6 due to the manhunt.
Sept. 8
A Chester County spokesperson confirmed that the prison guard on duty when Cavalcante escaped was fired. It is unknown whether he is the same tower guard placed on administrative leave.
The guard who was fired had a cellphone in the tower, which is a violation of Chester County Prison policy, the spokesperson said.
Sept. 9
As the manhunt stretched into its second week, Cavalcante changed his appearance.
A doorbell security system captured Cavalcante with a clean-shaven face wearing a dark-billed baseball cap, a green hooded sweatshirt, green prison pants, and white shoes.
He stole a 2020 Ford Transit van the previous night between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. and drove to the northern part of Chester County, 20 miles from the previous search area. The van, reported stolen from Baily's Dairy, had the Pennsylvania license plate number ZST-8818 and had a refrigeration unit on top.

"We really do not have any other information at this time, and are just as disappointed as everyone that he broke through the perimeter in Longwood," Baily's Dairy said in a post to Facebook. "We appreciate the support of the community and continuing efforts of Law Enforcement."
Nearly 400 officers have been assigned to the case, including tactical teams in full combat gear, tracking dogs, officers on horseback, and from aircraft. There is a reward of up to $20,000 for information that leads to Cavalcante's capture.
