NextImg:Pence says next front in anti-abortion fight is to be 'pro-adoption'

Former Vice President Mike Pence was on the Lincoln Memorial steps Saturday to take part in National Celebrate Life Day.

Pence was there to commemorate the anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, which, while it was released on June 24, had been leaked previously. The decision removed the federal protection of the procedure and turned over the ability to legislate it to states.

SOCIAL SECURITY UPDATE: DIRECT PAYMENT WORTH $914 ARRIVES IN SIX DAYS

"As we celebrate this great new anniversary, let us here resolve that we will work and we will pray as never before to advance the cause of life and the laws of the land in every state in America. That we will support women in crisis pregnancies with resources and support for their care, for the unborn, and for the newborn as never before," Pence said. "That we will advance the cause of adoption in America, for to be pro-life you must be pro-adoption. And we will work every day to elect leaders at every level who will stand without apology for the sanctity of human life."

Somewhere between 2% to 4% of people have adopted, and more than a third have considered adopting, according to the Adoption Network. Additionally, one out of every 25 United States families with children has an adopted child, and 5 million Americans are adopted.

Pence, fellow Republican presidential candidates Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) have all supported a nationwide abortion ban after 15 weeks. All have expressed room for some exceptions, including the life of the mother, rape, and incest. A majority of Americans reported they would vote for a ban at that stage in the pregnancy.

Meanwhile, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) signed a six-week abortion ban in his state.
