NextImg:ParkMobile class-action: How to claim part of $32 million settlement

ParkMobile, a popular parking app, has reached a $32.8 million class-action settlement due to an alleged data breach in March 2021 that exposed the information of approximately 21 million users.

An August 2022 lawsuit filed in Georgia accused ParkMobile of failing to implement secure systems to protect customers’ personal data, violating state consumer protection laws.

According to the lawsuit, the stolen information included users’ license plate numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers, email and mailing addresses, and “hashed passwords.”

Even though Social Security numbers and payment cards were not exposed, the plaintiffs claim to have experienced “fraudulent activity” following the data breach as people accessed their Venmo and Netflix accounts.

ParkMobile acknowledged the data breach but denied all claims of wrongdoing.

Who can qualify

According to a website dedicated to the lawsuit, approximately 21 million people in 42 states and over 550 cities were affected by the data breach.

You are eligible for payment if you have received a mail or email notice from ParkMobile regarding the data breach or an email about the settlement. The notice received should include an ID number and confirmation code, but you can also look up your login on the website.

If you believe you may have been affected by the breach but never received a notice, you can contact the settlement administrator.

How to submit a claim

You can file a claim online by using the ID and confirmation code sent by mail or email. If you don’t have your ID and confirmation code, you can look it up here. The deadline to submit an online form is 11:59 p.m. PST on March 5, 2025.

The form can be printed and mailed, and you can also request that one be mailed to you. Mail-in forms must be postmarked by March 5 to be included in the lawsuit.

How much you could receive

Of the $32.8 million settlement, $9 million has been designated for cash payments, which have been capped at $25 per class participant. In order for the cash to be mailed to you, a claim will need to be filed.

The remaining portion of the settlement goes to ParkMobile $1 credit codes sent via email for in-app use after the claim period ends. This leaves enough to provide the roughly 21 million affected customers with a $1 credit, which will be valid for one year.

If you are a class member, the $1 credit will automatically be sent to you whether you filed a claim or not. If you want to exclude yourself from receiving the credit altogether, you must request to be removed from the settlement via mail before Feb. 3.

When payments go out

The final approval on the settlement is March 13, but it could take longer if there are appeals. Payments could take months to arrive.

“It also takes time for all the Claim Forms to be processed, depending on the number of claims submitted and whether any appeals are filed,” the site reads. “Please be patient.”
