Oklahoma’s public schools superintendent said he would institute ideology tests from a conservative organization for teachers coming from blue states in order to safeguard against “radical leftist ideology.”
Ryan Walters said teachers who come from blue states such as California and New York will have to pass an exam by PragerU, a conservative nonprofit group founded by radio host Dennis Prager, known for its short videos showcasing conservative arguments on political topics.

“As long as I am superintendent, Oklahoma classrooms will be safeguarded from the radical leftist ideology fostered in places like California and New York,” Walters said in a statement, obtained by the Associated Press.
Oklahoma Education Department spokesman Quinton Hitchcock told the outlet that the test has been finalized and will be implemented “very soon.”
The test consists of 50 questions, a copy of which was obtained by CNN. Many are basic civics questions, such as naming the two chambers of Congress, identifying how many senators there are, and reciting the first three words of the Constitution.
Others are more ideological, including a question asking why freedom of religion is important to the U.S.’s identity. Another question asks teachers to select which chromosomes correlate with which biological sex.
Walters argued that the test was a needed response to ideological educational maneuvers in places such as California. The California Department of Education requires teachers to teach “about gender, gender expression, gender identity, and explore the harm of negative gender stereotypes.” They must also “teach about all sexual orientations and what being LGBTQ means.”
“We will not allow these leftists’ plans and schemes to take place here in Oklahoma,” Walters told CNN. “They are trying to warp the minds of our kids to turn them into social justice warriors, instead of kids that are getting the most of their god given talents to go get a good job, to go live a fulfilling life.”
The move was met with outrage from many on the Left, including American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten.
“This MAGA loyalty test will be yet another turnoff for teachers in a state already struggling with a huge shortage,” she said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press.
“His priority should be educating students, but instead, it’s getting Donald Trump and other MAGA politicians to notice him,” Weingarten added.
Oklahoma has been the center of a number of recent educational controversies, including an initiative to purchase 55,000 Bibles to be placed in state classrooms.

Originally, Walters required the leather-bound or leatherlike-bound Bibles to be the King James Version, including the Old Testament and New Testament, as well as copies of the Pledge of Allegiance, Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights. No Bibles fit these criteria except for two that Trump has been linked to and endorsed: Lee Greenwood’s God Bless the USA Bible and the We the People Bible.
Walters insisted that it was a coincidence and changed the criteria to include other Bibles.
