An Oklahoma man pleaded guilty to threatening to kill Gov. Kevin Stitt (R-OK), Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), and others via social media.
Tyler Jay Marshall, 36, pleaded guilty to the interstate transmission of threatening communications against several government officials, United States Attorney Robert J. Troester announced on Wednesday. Marshall had sent threats over Twitter, now in the process of being rebranded as "X," to bomb or shoot DeSantis, Stitt, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-AR), and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), along with their families.
THE MIXED MESSAGES OF BIDENOMICS
According to court records, the FBI had been made aware of Marshall's threatening behavior on or around March 15 and arrested him on May 19.
A federal grand jury had originally returned a two-count indictment of threatening to murder a U.S. official and interstate transmission of threatening communications. Marshall accepted a plea deal, only pleading guilty to the second charge. As part of the deal, he admitted that he knew his posts would be viewed as genuine threats.
On one occasion, Marshall replied to a Mother's Day post from Stitt with a detailed threat to bring guns to an event where the governor was speaking and shoot him. On another, he responded to a DeSantis tweet decrying diversity, equity, and inclusion training with the comment “I’ll see you dead in your home,” the Daily Oklahoman reported.
In a reply to a tweet from Sanders, Marshall wrote, “Can’t wait to murder your family. See you soon.”
The defendant argued that he only created the account to troll Republican legislators, and was drunk when he created it.

The investigation was a joint operation of the FBI Oklahoma City Field Office, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and the Enid Police Department.
Marshall faces five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
