


The United States Coast Guard was deployed after an oil spill in the Philadelphia Navy Yard, according to reports.
Fire officials said they first responded to the spill at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday after 100 gallons of oil spilled from a building in the city's Pennsport section, according to CBS News Philadelphia.

The spill was declared under control within three hours of the original response, but the Coast Guard was still deployed. It's currently unknown what caused the spill.
A helicopter from 6 ABC Action News recorded footage of the spill, which leaked across the waterway and around several mothballed ships.

For comparison, the Deepwater Horizon spill in 2010 released 205.8 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, according to the Center for Biological Diversity.
The Philadelphia Navy Yard is the oldest in the United States and contains more ships than many countries' entire navies. Of the 49 inactive ships in the U.S., 31 are located in the Philadelphia Navy Yard, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
