Earlier this week, Ohio‘s secretary of state caused a bit of political drama when he said President Joe Biden would not be on the ballot for the November election due to procedural problems in which the Democratic National Committee will not confirm Biden as the Democratic nominee until Aug. 19, according to reports.
Apparently, this clashed with Ohio’s law that requires political parties to certify their respective presidential candidate’s nomination to the office of Ohio’s secretary of state 90 days before the election.
As the Washington Examiner reported, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose wrote a letter to Ohio Democratic Party Chairwoman Liz Walters, notifying her of her party’s error and suggesting there would not be a legislative solution for this problem.
“Today, the Speaker of the Ohio House told members of the media there would not be a legislative solution,” LaRose said. He also claimed he was “duty-bound to instruct boards of elections to begin preparing ballots that do not include the Democratic Party’s nominees for president and vice President of the United States.”
On the one hand, I admire LaRose for taking a stand and making such a declaration and public statement. It was bold and showed that he was unwilling to provide extra privileges or exceptions to a political candidate who did not adhere to his state’s rules, even if that candidate was the president of the United States.
Nevertheless, it is not at all believable that what LaRose stated will actually come to fruition. It should raise all kinds of red flags that Democrats struggled to comply with Ohio’s law. Undoubtedly, it will lend credence to the conspiracy theorists touting the Biden candidate replacement theory. However, no one in their right mind would at all believe that Biden would be omitted from the ballot if he was indeed the candidate.
Moreover, if LaRose just wrote the letter to cause drama or to ruffle people’s feathers, it was kind of silly. Everyone knows there is no chance that Biden will not be on the ballot in November if he is the nominee. I would imagine that LaRose knows this, too, which makes his actions, letter, and statements even more puzzling. He has no endgame other than to have Biden on the ballot. All he did was create controversy, for which he will almost certainly come out on the losing side. It was pointless to pursue this.
Now, maybe LaRose did this as a coy political maneuver to bring awareness to Democrats trying to be slick with Biden’s candidacy. Quite frankly, if that was indeed the case, then he should be applauded for his efforts. But it is still unrealistic to think Biden would not be on the ballot, assuming he is the candidate.

Furthermore, if LaRose aimed to expose the Democrats’ tactics, then Republicans need to do more than just acknowledge the situation. They should take a proactive stance, ensuring the entire nation is aware of the Democrats’ possible ballot manipulation. Sending a letter to the Ohio Democratic Party chairwoman with unenforceable claims is not productive. It’s crucial to take decisive action to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and expose the Democrats’ possible ploy.
If Biden is the candidate, he will obviously be on the ballot in Ohio. Even remotely thinking otherwise is just plain foolish. But if Democrats are trying to play games to usurp the rules so they can manipulate things to their advantage, then they should be publicly rebuked for their intentions and held accountable for their deceptive actions.
