Police have surrounded protesters, leading to some reported arrests, who have gathered near President Joe Biden’s campaign event in New York City. Biden arrived at the venue around 7:45 p.m., while protesters were outside.
Within Our Lifetime, a pro-Palestinian group, circulated a flier urging protesters attempt to reach the building Biden is holding a fundraiser in Manhattan in on Friday. The flier says “Genocidal politicians are not welcome in New York City. Get there by any means necessary.”
The protest began at Madison Square park, but attendees then marched in a huge crowd toward the event venue. Some protesters were arrested in the crowd, according to eye witnesses, but the majority made it through. NYPD has blocked off roads with bikes and sanitation vehicles, causing traffic delays for both cars and pedestrians.
The Washington Examiner has reached out to the NYPD.
Biden and first lady Jill Biden traveled to New York City to attend the opening of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center. The Stonewall Inn is the gay and lesbian bar where, in 1969, a police raid resulted in a days long riot against the illegal status of homosexuality.
