The National Republican Congressional Committee released the first video in its “majority makers” series highlighting Republican members whose districts are paramount to the GOP keeping the majority, and the first member is freshman Rep. Zach Nunn (R-IA).

The series highlights the “unique stories and backgrounds of House Republican candidates.” Nunn, a Republican who flipped a seat in Iowa last year and is in a vulnerable seat, is an Air Force veteran and served as director of cybersecurity policy for the National Security Council under President Barack Obama.

After his time at the National Security Council, Nunn served in the Iowa House from 2015-2019 and the Iowa Senate from 2019-2023, when he won election to the U.S. House of Representatives.

In 2022, Nunn defeated former Rep. Cindy Axne, the only Democrat in Iowa’s congressional delegation at the time. His race was considered one of the toughest in the nation, and he won by less than 1 percentage point, or just over 2,000 votes.

“The mission before us is the opportunity to serve the people of Iowa’s 3rd District,” Nunn said in the video. “We can’t all be successful unless we’re fighting together as a team. Having the privilege of keeping this seat helps keeps us in the majority, and it’s going to be a competition every single election cycle.”

The NRCC will be running the video across social media platforms.

Retaining Nunn’s seat will be a fight. According to the Cook Political Report, his district “leans Republican” and is an R+3 district.

He does not have a declared Democratic opponent but is a listed target of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

“House Republicans aren’t just politicians in fancy clothes — we have an incredible roster of authentic candidates with compelling life stories allowing us to win anywhere," said Jack Pandol, the NRCC communications director. "Zach Nunn answered the call to serve our country just as he answered the call to raise his two adopted children, and that sense of serving others before himself is what makes him a dynamic congressman for Iowa."

According to Federal Election Commission records, Nunn has $657,779 on hand as of April 1.
