Rep. Mark Harris (R-NC) knocked former President Joe Biden over the preemptive pardons he granted at the very end of his presidency, indicating that the process of granting these pardons could change in the future
Biden’s last few hours in power saw him grant preemptive pardons to his family, including his businessman brother James Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and members of the former House Jan. 6 committee. Biden said in December 2020 that there was a possibility of President Donald Trump issuing preemptive pardons to the Trump family while also saying preemptive pardons would not be given to the Biden family.
“Well, I just think you continue to see the inconsistency of former President Biden, feels good to say that,” Harris said on Fox Business’s Mornings with Maria Bartiromo, guest-hosted by Cheryl Casone. “But frankly, I think we’ve got a real problem, legal scholars, some that I’ve talked to in the last two days really question the Constitutionality of these preemptive pardons, and I’m on the Judiciary Committee, I have a feeling we’re going to have an opportunity to hear from some of these folks.”
Biden also issued a sweeping pardon to his son, Hunter Biden, for any crimes he may have committed over the course of 11 years, beginning in 2014.
Harris also addressed how the nation will move forward from Biden’s leadership and how Trump’s quick executive actions were “a strong indication” of how the United States is a leader of “the free world.” The lawmaker cited how he spoke to former United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson at the inauguration and how he shared the sentiment that the inauguration was an “exciting day for America.”

With Trump set to lead the nation for the next four years, Harris contended that Trump is also “a world leader” who will use the nation to lead the world “by example.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt detailed how Trump intends to inform the world that “America is back” within the first two days of office, which has already seen Trump issue multiple executive actions related to the border. She added that investors across the nation and foreign leaders across the world have confidence in the U.S. again since Trump plans on making it “the envy of the world.”
