Nigel Farage, the leader of the Reform UK party, was doused in a drink Tuesday during the announcement event for his entry into the general election.

Farage was attending an event in Clacton-on-Sea when he was covered with a milkshake, according to Metro. The I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! star was in the village to announce his candidacy in the Essex town.

The United Kingdom announced a general election this year amid declining momentum for the Conservative Party, leading to a competitive field that could lead to gains for Keir Starmer’s Labour Party and Reform UK.

Reform UK began as the Brexit Party in 2018, and Farage was one of the original proponents of the Brexit movement, or the movement to remove the U.K. from the European Union over disagreements over trade, governance, and immigration. That campaign was successful, and the U.K. left the EU in 2020.

Former Reform UK Chairman Richard Tice reacted to the incident on X.

“The juvenile moron who threw a drink over Nigel has just gained us hundreds of thousands more votes,” he said. “We will not be bullied or threatened off the campaign trail.”

A woman was arrested in connection with the incident. The local police, who refer to Farage as “a man,” said, according to the Guardian:

“Officers have made two arrests after responding to a report a drink was thrown at a man in Clacton,” a spokesperson for the department said. “We were called to the area of Marine Parade East, Clacton, at around 2.10pm today. It was reported a man had a drink thrown over him as he left a premises in the area. A 25-year-old woman, from Clacton, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault. While officers were responding and making this arrest, a second individual, a man, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. Both individuals remain in custody for questioning.”
