President Joe Biden's reelection campaign is planning to counter the Republican debate in California next week with a strategy similar to the one deployed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This time, though, the effort will be led in part by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA).
In this capacity, Newsom will headline a call with reporters on Monday to set the tone for the week, along with Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison.

The California governor will be in the area during the Republican debate in Simi Valley, where the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum is, joined by Harrison and Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez.
Biden campaign advisers are expecting the second debate to focus more on the economy, pointing to its host, Fox Business. The campaign plans to use this as an opportunity to compare "Bidenomics" with the Republican economic policies being espoused by candidates.
The campaign will be pulling out all the stops to boost its Hispanic and Latino support during the debate, particularly because Univision is a debate partner for the event. In addition to a new Hispanic ad campaign, Biden's reelection team will conduct outreach with the key constituency. The campaign is slated to host a series of organizing events catered to Latinos, including one event that is specifically geared toward Latino men.
"La Diferencia," announced by the campaign on Friday, is the third ad targeting Latinos. Such an ad campaign geared at building support in the pivotal bloc is historically early for a presidential campaign. It is part of a larger $25 million ad buy, will air on both TV and digital in battleground states, and will be running during debate week. The ad will air in English and Spanish.
Further, the DNC will fly a plane in Southern California with a banner, as well as circle the debate venue with a billboard truck. The messages on the plane and truck haven't been revealed.
According to Chavez Rodriguez, "Republicans talk a lot of game, but Joe Biden actually delivers for Latinos and middle class families. That's the difference and that's the choice Americans will face in November 2024: between an agenda that is lowering costs, investing in our communities and businesses, and growing our economy versus MAGA Republicans whose platform only serves the wealthy and powerful. That very stark difference will be on display at next week's Republican debate, and the campaign will be highlighting the difference between talk and action."
Harrison added, "Next week, the American people will once again see the out-of-touch, extreme field of MAGA Republicans on full display. While they showcase their dangerous agenda, we'll be there holding them accountable and mobilizing the Biden-Harris coalition around an agenda that has actually delivered for Latino communities."

Newsom's work with Biden's reelection campaign comes as the governor has repeatedly sparked speculation over a presidential run despite denying any plans to challenge the president.
The second Republican debate will take place on Wednesday, and six candidates have qualified, including Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Vivek Ramaswamy, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, former Vice President Mike Pence, and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.
