Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) continued to receive criticism from fellow politicians for his trip to South Carolina this week.

Newsom has been in South Carolina since Monday. On Wednesday, he further posted about his trip in a pointed manner to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), while in the city of Seneca.

“Happy Birthday, @LindseyGrahamSC!” Newsom said with a photo of himself in Seneca. “Great to be in a packed room in your hometown this morning!”

Graham mocked the turnout in a subsequent X post.

“If you’ve ever wondered how many liberals there are in Seneca, South Carolina… we now know they can all fit in one room with Governor @GavinNewsom!” Graham wrote.

“I can’t think of a better birthday present than to be criticized – in South Carolina – by the Governor of California for voting for President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill,” Graham added.

“From a liberal’s perspective, this bill is a nightmare. It cuts taxes. It reduces spending, with a debt reduction of over $400 billion. It’s also the largest investment in the history of the country for border security, and it makes our military stronger. All things liberals hate and would never do.”

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) challenged Newsom to a debate. Newsom largely dismissed the invitation, responding that it could’ve been from one of Mace’s alleged “burner accounts.” Mace is accused of directing her staff to operate fake accounts online to support her.

“If I were governor of California, I’d be less concerned about South Carolina and ‘burners’ and more concerned about rebuilding the Pacific Palisades which burned on your watch. @GavinNewsom,” Mace wrote.

Republican California state Sen. Brian Dahle jumped in to share a photo of Newsom serving a customer in a South Carolina bakery.

“I wish Gavin Newsom would work this hard in his own state,” Dahl said with the photo.

Newsom is a year away from reaching his two-term limit after he survived a recall election in 2021. Following the fires in Southern California, Newsom was served recall papers for the second time.

STEVE HILTON CALLS NEWSOM ‘A DISGRACE’ FOR DITCHING CALIFORNIA TO MEET WITH SOUTH CAROLINA VOTERS

Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) accompanied Newsom through some of Newsom’s events in South Carolina. At one point, he introduced Newsom as one of “these candidates that are running for president,” and gestured to Newsom before catching himself.

“Safe travels back to California, Governor Newsom. Your shout outs are much appreciated and I hope they continue!” Graham concluded his X post.
