A pair of New York House members got into a screaming match on the House floor Thursday during votes.
Rep. John Mannion (D-NY) yelled at Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) to get out of the Democratic side of the House floor after tensions ran high following Sen. Alex Padilla’s (D-CA) removal from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference.

“John Mannion was entirely unhinged and unprofessional,” Lawler posted on X. “That was a shameful display that exposed his complete lack of temperament. No wonder numerous staffers have previously alleged a toxic work environment. He should go seek help for anger management — and f*** off.”
The Democrat reportedly confronted Lawler about the Padilla incident and urged him to stand up and “grow a pair of balls.”
Mannion told the Washington Examiner he was standing up and speaking out against the “gross fealty to a want-to-be dictator who is tearing the country apart” in reference to President Donald Trump’s “enablers.”
“I’m giving everything I have to stop the rise of authoritarian government and the destruction of American democracy,” Mannion said in a statement.
“If making some noise on the House floor and calling out Trump enablers draws attention to what’s happening to our country right before our eyes — good,” he added.
This was not the only fight between members on Thursday. Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) was in a screaming match between House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), where he asked for a point of order to subpoena Noem. Comer told Frost to “shut up,” and Greene accused Frost of being a “former antifa member.”

Fights on the House floor are a rarity, but do happen. Congress is known for not shying away from the theatrics and name-calling.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) called Greene a “bleach blonde bad-built butch body” during an off-the-rails exchange in a House hearing last year. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL) also had to be physically prevented from going after then-Rep. Matt Gaetz during the 2023 marathon effort to elect Rep. Kevin McCarthy as House speaker.
As members’ frustrations ran high on Thursday, they are now headed for a one-week recess to cool off.
