NextImg:New York City cruelly tempts and evicts illegal immigrants - Washington Examiner

New York City continues to stumble over the fact that its sanctuary promises are irreconcilable with the reality of running a city while inviting a surge in illegal immigrants.

New York City has been one of the many Democratic-run “sanctuary” cities that have encouraged illegal immigrants to cross the southern border by the hundreds of thousands every month. The city’s attempts to shame Republicans were going swell up until Texas called its bluff and began sending illegal immigrants to promised sanctuaries.

As a result, New York City has already had to eliminate its “right to shelter” policy for illegal immigrants, leaving illegal immigrants in city shelters wondering every month whether they will have a roof over their heads. Now, the city is clearing out a homeless encampment of illegal immigrants on Randall’s Island, leaving them roamers again as many of them had already hit their limited number of days in the shelter system.

Is this the cruelty and intolerance of illegal immigrants about which cities like New York City have lectured Republicans? New York leaders have made it impossible for these illegal immigrants to stay in shelters despite promising sanctuary and a “right to shelter” and are now forcing them out of encampments they have started because the city won’t house them. Mayor Eric Adams promised, “Our city has been, and will always be, a city of immigrants that welcomes newcomers with open arms.” Is leaving illegal immigrants homeless and sweeping them off the streets like trash part of that?

This is what it looks like when you promise something you can’t deliver just to feel good about yourself and shame your political opponents. If New York City can’t even handle a fraction of what smaller border towns see every month, then Adams and other leaders should stop encouraging illegal immigrants to cross the border in droves with promises of “sanctuary” and shelter that the city can’t keep.

New York City and other Democratic sanctuary cities are using these illegal immigrants as political props, promoting their own “empathy” and “acceptance” while evicting illegal immigrants and complaining about how many of them they have to accept. Democrats accusing Republicans of cruelty or using illegal immigrants as political tools are projecting their own intolerance and political frustrations onto their opponents because they know how insincere their sanctuary promises truly are.
