The border crisis hasn’t just exposed that Democratic-run sanctuary cities are frauds. It has exposed that Democratic-run cities are failures and that they are even willing to admit it.
None has been more guilty of this than New York City, which has been brought to its knees by a fraction of the number of illegal immigrants that border states see every day and the time period that they have been arriving. It took just under 80,000 illegal immigrants for Mayor Eric Adams to announce that the city’s shelter system was full and that it would be relocating them to other cities to ease the strain.
HOW WILL A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN AFFECT NATIONAL PARKS?
Now, Adams has resorted to telling illegal immigrants not to come to New York City because it is too expensive. The city is distributing English and Spanish flyers to illegal immigrants informing them that “NYC is one of the most expensive cities in the world” and that “You are better off going to a more affordable city.”
So, not only is New York City a “sanctuary city” that can’t provide sanctuary to illegal immigrants like it promised, but it’s a sanctuary city that admits that it is too expensive for the people seeking sanctuary even to inhabit. Why, it’s almost like the embrace of “sanctuary city” status was only designed to shame border states for opposing illegal immigration for all these years.
As the flyers state, just about everyone would be better off leaving New York City for a more affordable abode, which is what many residents have done since the pandemic in 2020. New York City is an expensive, mismanaged disaster, full of empty promises, such as Adams’s vow that it will “remain a sanctuary city.”
"We should protect our immigrants." Period.

Yes, New York City will remain a sanctuary city under an Adams administration. #EricOnNBC
New York City is a failure of Democratic governance, as both the pandemic and the border crisis have shown. When city leaders themselves admit that the city isn’t affordable and can’t provide sanctuary as it has promised, they are admitting that they have failed for all the country to see.
