Never underestimate Democrats and their deep-seated desire to prevent Americans from defending their families. Historically, leftists have rarely troubled themselves with such things as the Bill of Rights, but New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham’s decision to temporarily suspend the Second Amendment to the Constitution seems to have been a bridge too far for all but the most extreme gun control enthusiasts in the party of Woodrow Wilson.

Under the guise of an erroneous “public health emergency,” the governor’s comically unconstitutional order would ban the use of concealed carry permits as well as open carry, both of which are protected not only by the United States Constitution but also by the New Mexico Constitution. Grassroots opposition to this order, however, was heartening.

Thousands of Second Amendment supporters rallied in Albuquerque in blatant defiance of the governor’s order, many of whom were openly carrying weapons. Condemnation of Grisham was immediately universal on conservative social media and among prominent figures on the Right. Michigan-based ammo manufacturer Fenix Ammunition made waves by offering free shipping to all New Mexico residents until Grisham resigns or is impeached. “We are going to flood your state with ordinance,” warned the company on Twitter.

Even elected officials of her own party refused to support the governor’s scheme. Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA), an ardent supporter of gun control, tweeted , “No state in the union can suspend the federal Constitution. There is no such thing as a state public health emergency exception to the U.S. Constitution.”

New Mexico’s Democratic Attorney General Raul Torrez abandoned his governor as well. “Though I recognize my statutory obligation as New Mexico’s chief legal officer to defend state officials when they are sued in their official capacity, my duty to uphold and defend the constitutional rights of every citizen takes precedence,” Torrez wrote. “Simply put, I do not believe that the Emergency Order will have any meaningful impact on public safety but, more importantly, I do not believe it passes constitutional muster.”

When the party of Joe Biden and FDR has doubts that your actions will pass constitutional muster, you have a problem.

U.S. District Judge David Urias blocked the governor’s order on Wednesday following lawsuits from several gun rights organizations. Lujan Grisham remained defiant , tweeting, “I refuse to be resigned to the status quo, and I will never stop fighting to prevent other families from enduring these tragedies.” But clearly, the jig is up.

Gun sales skyrocketed following the tyrannical COVID-19 lockdowns and the widespread rioting and looting in 2020 following the death of George Floyd. Recent Second Amendment victories such as Bruen have strengthened gun rights protections. The very existence of dictatorial maniacs such as Grisham, who care little for the rights and liberties of Americans, reminds us how important the Second Amendment is and will continue to be.
