NextImg:New Jersey lawmaker confident Trump will 'catch up' on drone tech

Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) expressed enthusiasm that President-elect Donald Trump’s administration will drastically improve its drone technology in the coming years, arguing that there is “no doubt” the nation is behind other countries.

The New Jersey lawmaker has been sounding the alarm over the numerous drone sightings in his state, claiming that “dependable” whistleblowers have informed him that there is “a real possibility” that these drones are from Iran. Ahead of Trump taking office in three weeks, Van Drew contended that both the president-elect and most of Congress recognize how important drone technology is.

“We’ve got to catch up and surpass where China is, we need to get on with this, and we can do it,” Van Drew said on Fox Business’s Mornings with Maria Bartiromo, guest-hosted by Cheryl Casone. “But there is no doubt we are behind now. We’re too interested in people’s pronouns and paying for sex changes in the military and political correctness rather than being the fastest, smartest, best, most focused military in the world.”

Van Drew also discussed that the drone sightings showcase “how unprepared” the nation is in dealing with unknown drones, insisting again how someone “with real gravitas” informed him that there is a “drone ship” deploying drones that went missing for weeks in Iran. He added that the United States is “10 years behind” in understanding the science behind drones compared to China.

In concluding his thoughts, Van Drew said the U.S. has either been covering up these drone sightings or a foreign nation is involved in them. Regardless, he said he felt the U.S. government has handled the drone sightings “terribly.”

Before assuming office, Trump argued during a press conference that “the government knows what is happening” with the drone sightings and that it wants to keep the public uninformed “for some reason.” He also ruled out the possibility of an adversary being responsible for the drones.

With New Year’s Eve right around the corner, ABC issued a warning to New York and New Jersey residents about its planned drone showcase for its New Year’s Rockin’ Eve broadcast. The warning was issued regarding the show’s rehearsal on Saturday, three days before the event scheduled for Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, a couple of drone shows meant to ring in the new year, including one in New York’s Central Park, have been canceled after a drone accident injured a 7-year-old boy in Florida, requiring surgery. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
