


A new miniseries from Netflix will tell the story of Griselda Blanco, a Colombian businesswoman who rose to power in the criminal underworld.
The series, titled Griselda, will star Sofia Vergara as the title character, known for her role in Modern Family and for serving as a judge in America's Got Talent. The series will premiere on Netflix on Jan. 25 and will consist of six hourlong episodes.

Prior to her death in 2012, Blanco made a name for herself through her cocaine business, which earned her over $80 million per month. Her cartel is still considered one of the most profitable in all of cartel history.
Blanco's recognition in the criminal underworld earned her such titles as the "Black Widow," the "Godmother of Cocaine," and the "Boss." She served 10 years in jail and was then shot and killed at 69 years old after being deported to Colombia.

Griselda is written by Eric Newman, Doug Miro, Ingrid Escajeda, and Carlo Bernard. Newman will be working with Andres Baiz on this series. The two worked together on the hit show Narcos.
In addition to playing the lead role, Vergara will also serve as an executive producer of the series.
