The USNS Big Horn, a U.S. Navy replenishment ship operating in the Middle East, sustained damage in an incident this week, according to an official from the service branch.
“USNS Big Horn (T-AO-198), a replenishment oiler, sustained damage while operating at sea in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations overnight on Sept. 23,” a Navy official told the Washington Examiner.
“All crew numbers are currently safe,” the official added.
The official did not specify what caused the damage or where the ship was at the time of the incident, though the service branch is now “assessing the situation.”
Unconfirmed videos and photos circulated on social media this week apparently showing at least one room aboard the vessel had flooded. GCaptain first reported the USNS Big Horn had run aground and said it happened off Oman’s coast.
