Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) suggested Republicans ought to boycott ABC News in the wake of a recent interview she did with anchor George Stephanopoulos, voicing her support for a new lawsuit against him and the network.
The lawsuit was filed by former President Donald Trump’s attorneys, who have accused Stephanopoulos and the network of defamation and tarnishing Trump’s reputation. On March 10, Stephanopoulos asked Mace why she chose to endorse Trump for president when the former president had been found “liable for rape,” a reference to Trump’s case against author E. Jean Carroll in which he was found liable for “sexual abuse” and not rape.
“And quite frankly, Republicans should boycott ABC News until George Stephanopoulos is held accountable for the egregious lies he purposely told on air on ABC News this week,” Mace said in a Tuesday interview with Newsmax. “I’m glad that Donald Trump is suing ABC News, and I hope he sues him for every single penny. Maybe $454 million sounds about right for that. I’m going to tell the truth, Donald Trump is going to tell the truth, and we’re not going to take it from a bridge troll with a microphone like George Stephanopoulos.”
Mace’s suggestion for $454 million was referencing the fine that Trump owes to New York, which was issued by Judge Arthur Engoron last month.
The South Carolina representative also suggested that Bob Iger, the CEO of the Walt Disney Company, ought to get “a grip of ABC News” because the company owns the news network. She went on to claim that news outlets such as ABC News take “talking points over the truth” and that the only thing Stephanopoulos does is tell lies.
Alejandro Brito, Trump’s attorney, alleges in a 20-page complaint that Stephanopoulos made his claims that Trump was liable for rape “with actual malice or with a reckless disregard for the truth,” the report noted. Byron York, the Washington Examiner’s chief political correspondent, was among Stephanopoulos’s critics over his interview with Mace, noting how the jury found Trump liable for “sexual abuse” instead of rape in the case with Carroll.

Mace has been critical of Stephanopoulos both during and after conducting her interview with the ABC News anchor, claiming during the interview that Stephanopoulos was attempting to shame her over her endorsement of Trump.
Trump and Mace have been on rocky terms in the past, though they seemed to have moved on from their differences, with the former president endorsing her in her bid for reelection. The South Carolina representative is rumored to be among Trump’s potential candidates for his vice president, a position Mace herself has hinted that she would accept if Trump offered it to her.
