Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) spoke highly of President Donald Trump’s intent to dismantle the Department of Education, which she argued has become a “slush fund” for teacher unions.

Trump has made clear his desire to get rid of the getting rid of the department, and is expected to sign an executive order on the matter soon. Mace contended that by doing this, Trump is giving more power to parents and the individual states, revealing that she herself is a high school drop out and knows how important it is to receive proper education.

“The Department of Education has become a slush fund for teachers unions who are more about advocating and politics than about educating our students, and we’re failing our country because we’ve allowed this to happen, and it’s no more. Donald Trump’s going to put an end to it,” Mace stated on Fox News’s The Faulkner Focus, guest-hosted by Sandra Smith.

Rick Scott (R-FL) is among the many Republican lawmakers calling for education to be returned back to the states, citing how the quality of the nation’s education has decreased “since the Department of Education has been around.” He added that the federal government should get “completely” out of the education department, and instead leave it up to the states for their education quality.
