NextImg:Nancy Mace criticizes Blinken's Mexico visit as being 'all about paying lip service'

Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) labeled Secretary of State Antony Blinken's trip to Mexico this week as being "all about paying lip service" rather than addressing problems with the southern border.

Mace said that people from all political parties in her congressional district are expressing concern over the border and called it a "massive" problem for the Biden administration while speaking on Fox Business's Cavuto: Coast to Coast on Wednesday.

“Blinken’s visit to Mexico is all about paying lip service to this issue,” Mace said. “I represent a very independent-minded district. We are seeing independents, Republicans, and Democrats getting very angry about what they’re seeing at the border, and on some days, we have more people crossing the southern border in one day than we do all year from our northern border.”

"This is a massive, massive problem for the Biden administration, and they refuse to address it," she added.

Blinken, alongside other U.S. officials, including Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, met with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Wednesday to discuss border policy and the continued flow of illegal immigrants into the U.S. at the southern border.

Mace said that when Congress reconvenes early next year, border security should be the top priority.

"Republicans had better in both chambers, the Senate and the House, make sure we have our own border security as priority No. 1 before we start doling out any other dollars to any other country. What we are seeing are more kids dying of drug overdoses, more human trafficking, every town is a border town in this country made worse by Biden’s border policies," Mace said.

"I don’t want lip service to 20 more miles of wall. I want to shut down the southern border. I want to have laws that we follow, and that needs to happen, and I hope that is the No. 1 priority when we go back and reconvene for session in January," she added.

Negotiators in the Senate were working before the holiday recess to get a border security deal in place as a way of getting more aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan approved. The talks have not amounted to a deal so far.
