Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) will face a primary challenge from 26-year-old Liam Elkind.
Elkind, the CEO of a nonprofit group, in an announcement video, thanked Nadler, 78, for his years in Congress but advocated younger voices.

“We need new leaders to meet this moment because we can’t wait,” Elkind said. “We can’t wait to fight Trump, end corruption, ban corporate PAC money, impose term limits, build more housing, and serve our neighbors in need.”
He said “the Democratic Party is dying” in reference to the three House Democrats who have died in office this year, claiming their deaths allowed “Trump’s billionaire bill gutting healthcare and food stamps for millions of people to go through by one vote.”
Elkind said Nadler is not up to responding to President Donald Trump and aiding the Democratic Party. Nadler has been serving in Congress since 1992 and is a high-ranking member of the party.
“There has to be a way of both honoring the 49-year political career of someone like Jerry Nadler while asking him to build a bridge to the future,” Elkind told CNN.
Elkind is reportedly backed by LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman, a prominent Democratic donor.
Nadler spokesman Rob Gottheim told CNN that Nadler “will stake his record of accomplishments against anyone.”
