Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said on Monday that states should begin considering secession from the United States due to an "invasion" at the southern border.
"If the Biden admin refuses to stop the invasion of cartel led human and drug trafficking into our country, states should consider seceding from the union. From Texas to New York City to every town in America, we are drowning from Biden's traitorous America last border policies," she wrote in a social media post.

The conservative firebrand has made calls for large-scale changes to the union before. At different points, she has promoted a "national divorce" between states that vote for Democrats and those that vote for Republicans. "After Democrat voters and big donors ruin a state like California, you would think it wise to stop them from doing it to another great state like Florida. Brainwashed people that move from CA and NY really need a cooling off period," she posted on social media in 2021, discussing the concept.

From Texas to New York City to every town in America, we are drowning from Biden’s traitorous America last border policies.
The White House did not provide comment to the Washington Examiner.
Greene's new comments come as cities see strains on resources and crowding due to illegal immigrants being transported from other states.
Last week, New York City Mayor Eric Adams slashed the budget by 5% across all agencies to account for the costs of the city's influx of immigrants. "We are in the middle of a humanitarian crisis involving asylum-seekers, a crisis that will cost our city $12 billion over three fiscal years," he said. "While our compassion is limitless, our resources are not."
Chicago is facing a similar crisis. Mayor Brandon Johnson told city council members that the surge of immigrants to the city will cost about $255 million by the end of 2023, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Only a fraction of those who have crossed the southern border and been released have been transported to cities in this fashion. Texas, as a part of Operation Lone Star, has bused under 40,000 immigrants to "sanctuary" locations across the country. That leaves roughly 2 million immigrants whose locations are unknown.
And Texas has only bused <40,000 people in total.

2 million people have been released from the border and traveled into the US interior ... only 2% took Abbott's buses
Question is where are the other 1,960,000 people https://t.co/Es3phPTVE9

President Joe Biden has only visited the southern border once during his term, which began in 2021. Vice President Kamala Harris had been tapped to head the administration's approach to dealing with rampant border crossings. The White House has deployed a strategy of talking directly to countries in Latin America to quell the significant migration rather than one that includes frequent trips to the U.S. border. For this, Republicans have criticized the vice president's performance.
In May, the Biden administration oversaw the end of Title 42, a pandemic-era policy that allowed immigrants to be turned away because of their potential to spread COVID-19 if they came from a country where the virus was present. The policy's end saw significant opposition from Republicans, as well as border-state Democrats who asked for a plan from the president rather than an abrupt end.
