House Republicans pivoted from debt ceiling talks on Tuesday to bid on Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) used chapstick to raise money for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) shelled out $100,000 for the lip balm in a 15-minute auction.

“I’m honored to be able to donate $100,000 to the NRCC to help Republicans increase our majority in 2024 and defeat the Democrats,” Greene said in a statement to Politico. “My constituents will be honored to host a visit with Speaker Kevin McCarthy who we all think is doing a great job.”

The winner: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), whose winning bid was $100,000, her Spox confirms to me.
Greene only entered the contest after McCarthy agreed to attend a dinner with the highest bidder, and invited guests could be their selection of donors and supporters.
The sidebar from debt ceiling talks resulted in harsh pushback from Democratic lawmakers, expressing their frustrations at the high price tag of the speaker’s chapstick.
“MAGA Republicans are paying $100,000 for Speaker McCarthy’s chapstick while holding Social Security checks and retirement benefits hostage unless we cut food benefits for seniors, Medicaid funding, and childcare/preschool for low-income Americans,” Rep. Jennifer McClellan (D-VA) tweeted.

The auction comes after a lengthy meeting Monday night between McCarthy and President Joe Biden, who told reporters the two “have some philosophical differences, but I felt it was productive in that manner."
Rep. Aaron Bean (R-FL) reportedly lead the auction and can be seen in a photo with Greene holding the prize. The chapstick was branded with Bean’s campaign logo. Other GOP members who took part in the barter included Reps. Stephanie Bice (R-OK), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), and Jason Smith (R-MO).
