Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) joined the protests taking place both for and against medical transgender procedures on minors outside the Supreme Court on Wednesday, at one point being confronted by a heckler.

The Supreme Court is considering the case of U.S. v. Skrmetti, which is a challenge to Tennessee’s ban on puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and transgender surgeries for minors. Groups of protesters for and against the ban gathered outside the steps where the justices reviewed the case. Greene was among them with a sign that read, “There are two genders: male and female.”

“I’m here to declare that God only made two genders, male and female. In His image, He made us. children need to be left alone. They need to be allowed to grow up. No one should mutilate their genitals, perform surgeries on them, give them dangerous medicine and chemicals to their bodies. Kids are innocent; they need to be left alone,” Greene said to reporters as a man heckled her. She added, “People like this man are sick and disgusting.”

The man shouted down Greene, calling her a “monster” and “f***ing stupid.” He continued to talk over her as she addressed reporters.

“I really hope that the Supreme Court does the right thing and upholds Tennessee’s law,” Greene said.

Greene has her own legislation in the works, the Protect Children’s Innocence Act. This would make it a felony to perform surgeries or gender-affirming care on anyone under the age of 18. It remains at a standstill after the act was introduced in March of last year. A similar bill is also in limbo in the Senate.

U.S. v. Skrmetti is the first case in the court’s history with transgender procedures at its center.
