NextImg:MSNBC must fire Matthew Dowd immediately

Matthew Dowd is a Christian. I know this because he begins many of his social media posts with the words “As a Christian…” or with some other prepositional phrase intended to communicate a strong moral footing and knowledge of Jesus‘ teachings.

In 2021, he began a tweet by writing, “As I sat in church today, I was thinking that if Jesus were here today, he would be accused of being woke.”

CHARLIE KIRK DEAD AFTER BEING SHOT AT UTAH VALLEY UNIVERSITY

In 2022, he took this line further, saying on MSNBC, “If Jesus Christ was alive today, he would be called a groomer.”

When his recent bid for Lieutenant Governor of Texas came up short, he announced his withdrawal by citing his identity as a “white, male Christian” as the cause. He explained that a diverse field had emerged and that he “did not want to be the one who stands in the way of the greater diversity we need in politics.”

You get the point. Dowd, an enthusiastic Iraq War apologist and former strategist for George W. Bush who found woke religion in the Trump era, regularly uses the name of Jesus to make himself appear morally superior.

But a man is ultimately known by his actions, not his words. And Dowd’s actions this afternoon on MSNBC following the shooting of Charlie Kirk are not merely un-Christian, but reprehensible by any standard.

Appearing on Katy Tur Reports, Dowd said of Kirk, “[He is] constantly sort of pushing this sort of hate speech, aimed at certain groups. And I always go back to, hateful thoughts lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions.”

Dowd may enjoy calling himself a Christian in public, but one wonders what resides within the soul of a man who blames someone for their own assassination in partisan terms mere minutes after the shooting.

CHARLIE KIRK WAS MURDERED FOR WINNING THE WAR OF PUBLIC PERSUASION

We all know that respectability standards in the legacy media have sunk beneath the basement. But if anyone remains at MSNBC with an ounce of decency or integrity, they should speak up and demand that Dowd never sully their airwaves again.

One day, Kirk’s children might view this clip as they attempt to piece together what happened on the worst day of their lives. Give them at least the comfort that the man who blamed their father for his own assassination had been fired.
