Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Sunday arrested 72 illegal immigrants at an underground night club run by a suspected Mexican cartel member near Charleston, South Carolina.

Prior to the bust, ICE officials received reports that “The Alamo” club, which was being run by the Los Zetas cartel, formerly known as Cartel del Noreste, was a hotbed for human trafficking, narcotics, and weapons. During the operation, authorities seized cash, drugs, firearms, as well as six juveniles who were turned over to state social services.

“Day in and day out, the brave men and women of ICE are working with local law enforcement to keep American communities safe,” Assistant Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a Tuesday statement announcing the operation. “The successful operation that took place in the Charleston area resulted in more than 70 arrests of illegal aliens—including an international murder suspect and the dismantling of a nightclub run by a suspected cartel member where drug, weapon, and human trafficking were taking place.”

The bust came just days after White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller criticized senior DHS and ICE officials for low arrests and deportation numbers.

The operation led to the apprehension of Sergio Joel Galo-Baca, an illegal immigrant from Honduras with an active INTERPOL Red Notice for homicide in his home country.

Cartel del Noreste is a Mexican crime organization that was designated by the Trump administration as a terrorist organization earlier this year.
