Pro-Palestinian protesters continued to clash with law enforcement officials overnight in various incidents across the country.

The situation at UCLA remained tense as protesters and law enforcement officials clashed overnight. There were multiple reports of the Los Angeles Police Department breaching the pro-Palestinian encampment early Thursday morning.

Later, according to reports, the protesters appeared to push back the LAPD and force them to retreat. Then, shortly before 3 a.m. PST, the California Highway Patrol arrived wearing riot gear and reportedly breached the protesters’ blockade.

Across the country, at Stony Brook University in New York, 29 people were reportedly arrested after police officers and protesters clashed on the SBU campus. Several faculty members were among those detained.

On Wednesday, SBU officials released a statement that the protesters who set up encampments at the school were in violation of rules.

SBU said that the demonstration was initially peaceful. However, it escalated to incidents that included “intimidation and harassment of other students and the erection of tents,” which violated the school’s policy.

The released statement maintained that SBU tried everything possible to avoid a conflict with the protesters and offered to meet with them to “discuss their demands,” but the protesters reportedly “rejected the offer.”

At Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, police officers warned protesters several times to disperse from the area where they were demonstrating before making arrests.

Tensions started when “a few hundred people gathered on the Dartmouth Green by 6 p.m. and appeared to be a mix of students and members of the wider community.” Protesters declared their intention to form an encampment and remain there indefinitely until the Ivy League school surrendered to their demands, which included divesting from corporations and companies that supposedly supported Israel.

Over two hours later, police officers responded to the demonstration and gave them several warnings to disperse. When the protesters did not listen, police began making arrests, according to reports.

Students and non-students were among those arrested, WMUR reported. The charges included resisting arrest and criminal trespass.
