White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller denied that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is racially profiling its detainees, laughing when a CNN anchor asked him a question on the topic.

Illinois and Chicago sued the Trump administration on Monday to block its move to send National Guard troops into the city, two days after Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) said President Donald Trump would federalize 300 Illinois National Guard troops. Pritzker said Sunday that ICE and Customs and Border Protection are “raiding neighborhoods” and “picking up people who are brown and black.”

Miller scoffed when asked about Pritzker’s accusation, saying, “What a dumb question.”

“The illegal aliens who are here are taking jobs away from blacks, they’re taking jobs away from whites, they’re taking jobs away from Latinos, they’re taking their health benefits away, they’re taking their school slots away, and of course, in many cases, they’re committing heinous crimes,” Miller said on CNN News Central.

“We cannot have a system of law in this country that privileges illegal aliens over American citizens, and that’s what they’re doing. You know it. And I know it.

CNN’s Boris Sanchez pressed Miller on his response, saying it wasn’t “exactly a no.” Miller said he thought calling Sanchez’s question “dumb” equates to a “no.”

“My full answer is no, that is a lie, and it’s a dumb question,” Miller said.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Friday that ICE will be “all over” the 2026 Super Bowl next year, saying people should not watch the big game unless they are “law-abiding Americans.” Noem’s warning came a few days after the NFL announced Puerto Rican musician Bad Bunny as the halftime show performer.

White House border czar Tom Homan said last month that nearly 2 million illegal immigrants have exited the United States since Trump began his second term. Of these 2 million, 400,000 were deported, and around 1.6 million left on their own.
