Former Vice President Mike Pence threw his support behind Ohio's State Issue 1 measure, saying it will protect the state's constitution from "the radical Left."
Pence called on Ohioans to head to the polls and vote in the special election in a campaign video released Tuesday.

"For years, left-wing interests have abused the constitutional amendment process in Ohio to get their extreme agenda into law, but the Ohio Constitution Protection Amendment will put an end to that,” Pence said.
State Issue 1, if passed, would raise the threshold needed to amend the constitution from 50%-plus-one to 60%.
Several Republicans, including representatives from Ohio and Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, are adamant supporters of Issue 1. In November, a measure enshrining abortion in Ohio's constitution will be on the ballot for voters.

Anti-abortion groups have latched on to the measure, accusing liberal activists of bypassing lawmakers to push their agenda. On the other side, liberal groups have said Issue 1 was taking power away from the voters and placing it in the hands of conservative lawmakers.
Pence, who is the most vocal anti-abortion GOP presidential candidate, has called the fight against abortion "more important than politics."
