Former Vice President Mike Pence, a 2024 Republican presidential candidate, lamented the state of immigration in New York City.
Pence appeared on Fox and Friends on Friday to react to New York City Mayor Eric Adams's statements on the recent influx of immigrants transported from Texas into the city. The Democratic mayor predicted the sudden increase in population would "destroy New York City" and blamed former President Donald Trump, claiming the problem began under his presidency.

"But it's pretty rich to hear him say that after our administration reduced illegal immigration and asylum abuse by 90% by building hundreds of miles of wall, 'Remain in Mexico' policy that I negotiated on behalf of the administration, and Title 42," Pence said. "And then Joe Biden came in, and on day one, he dismantled all of the policies of our administration that had worked to secure the southern border of the United States."
Adams claimed the situation is a problem of the Biden administration in a statement made over Labor Day weekend. However, he shifted when he instead blamed Trump, who, along with Pence, is running for the Republican presidential nomination.
"I appreciate Mayor Adams conceding the fact that this is a Biden administration problem, but it originated with the Biden administration as well, and the American people know it," Pence said.
