Mike Huckabee predicted that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) will be politically “cremated” should he announce a bid for the White House in 2024.
While appearing on Fox News’s Hannity, the former Republican Arkansas governor and presidential candidate suggested that the Democrats' 2024 outlook is not strong as questions surface regarding whether President Joe Biden should seek reelection.
“He wants to get in, will get in, and will be cremated,” Huckabee quipped of Newsom’s future should he decide to run in 2024.
“Only 37% of Democrats even want him to run,” Huckabee said of Biden. “That is pretty embarrassing when your own party basically says 6 out of 10 don’t even want you to show up for the battle. I think he is headstrong to do it.”
“If they are going to go back and get Hillary [Clinton] or Al Gore, just keep going back in history — maybe go back to the real icon FDR,” Huckabee added, joking about a time when it was suggested that deceased University of Alabama football coach Paul William "Bear" Bryant be “dug up” to save the program. “I’m thinking that Democrats' new slogan will be ‘FDR, dig him up.’ That is where they are going. They are going to the past, not the future. It may be the only shot they’ve got.”

Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany suggested that any nomination of Biden, Clinton, or Gore would only offer Democrats a dismal “rerun” that will not work in 2024.
McEnany added that she expects Biden will be “coronated” as the Democratic choice despite Newsom’s desires to also enter the race.
