NextImg:Michigan lets criminal antisemitic protesters off the hook - Washington Examiner

Democrats continue to coddle and enable “pro-Palestine” protesters, even as they commit crimes during their antisemitic protests.

The latest example comes from Michigan, where Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel dropped the charges against seven protesters who were charged with trespassing and resisting and obstructing a police officer. This comes after protests and a pressure campaign designed to force Nessel off the case (including by one of the protesters’ attorneys), given that she is Jewish. Nessel instead decided to let all seven off after they were arrested in May 2024 for their parts in an illegal “pro-Palestine” encampment at the University of Michigan.

The circumstances make this even more pathetic. A local Jewish group sent a letter to the judge presiding over the case to defend Nessel and claim she holds no biases that would affect the case. Nessel used this as an excuse to claim that the atmosphere around the case had become “circus-like” and that the best course of action would be to move on from the “baseless and absurd allegations of bias” from the antisemitic defendants and the “impropriety” of the letter defending her.

This is despite Nessel claiming, “While I stand by my charging decisions, and believe, based on the evidence, a reasonable jury would find the defendants guilty of the crimes alleged, I no longer believe these cases to be a prudent use of my department’s resources.”

So, Nessel doesn’t think the letter would interfere with the case, just that it wouldn’t be a “prudent use” of resources to prosecute antisemites fueling hatred and breaking the law at Michigan’s flagship university.

OVER TWO DOZEN PRO-PALESTINIAN PROTESTERS ARRESTED ON UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON CAMPUS

What Nessel has done through this whole pointless exercise is to affirm to “pro-Palestine” protesters that they can break the law and face no consequences. Nessel affirmed their illegal encampments and their actions, all because she likely doesn’t want to jeopardize her political future in Michigan among the antisemitic activists in the state Democratic Party. Just as Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg gave antisemites a green light to break the law at Columbia University, Nessel has now done the same in Michigan.

Democrats continue to use kid gloves with antisemitic campus protesters, no matter how many buildings they illegally occupy, how many Jewish students they block from crossing campus, and how many janitors they hold hostage. The result is only going to be more of these illegal “protests,” where antisemitic students decide they get to run college campuses. Meanwhile, Democrats such as Nessel will continue to do nothing but offer weak criticisms.
