Meta has increased its spending on private security for CEO Mark Zuckerberg while also contributing to the "defund the police" movement.

The big tech company released its 2022 corporate disclosure, which reported the company spent $13,439,634 in 2020, $15,195,103 in 2021, and $14,829,245 in 2022 on "personal security for Mr. Zuckerberg at his residences and during personal travel." It also included security for his family and the "procurement, installation, and maintenance of certain security measures for his residences."

Meanwhile, Zuckerberg's philanthropic venture, the Chan-Zuckerberg Initiative, has also reportedly spent some $3 million in contributions to the company behind DefundPolice.org, Policy Link, during the same period. Another $2.5 million have gone to Solidaire, which in turn funds some 150 activist groups, among them The Movement for Black Lives and Black Lives Matter DC, which have both respectively called to defund police.

Neither Meta or CZI returned the Washington Examiner's request for comment.

Zuckerberg earned a $1 salary in 2021 and 2022.

TheGrio.com commissioned a poll last year, along with the Kaiser Family Foundation, reporting that 82% of black respondents want police funding either to be kept about the same (48%) or increased (34%). On the other hand, a small minority of 17% wanted it decreased.
