Megyn Kelly said Oliver Anthony's song "Rich Men North of Richmond" appeals to so many Americans because it gives voice to the disgust and resentment they feel toward the government.

The song features lyrics criticizing politicians, a fact Kelly said resonates with people who see those in power break the law and "sit back laughing at us."

The song comes as President Joe Biden, along with his son Hunter Biden, are under scrutiny over alleged foreign business deals during Biden's days as vice president.

"I do think they're — 'Oh, you know, he's on drugs, he was on drugs, that's really what this was about, don't be so mean, he had a drug problem like a lot of Americans,'" Kelly said, discussing Hunter Biden on her podcast. "That's failing. People are starting to get it. People who are on drugs don't have access to the sitting vice president who can cut deals that can get them $20 million, help them cut deals and access $20 million and they sit back laughing at us while they flout the law."

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a guest on Kelly's podcast, compared the song to Jason Aldean's "Try That In A Small Town," a recent song that has skyrocketed in popularity with conservatives. Gingrich stated that both songs "reflect the sense of alienation." The former speaker noted that many people in the U.S. do not trust the people in leadership, and that Anthony, with his new song, is "cutting through and telling the truth in a way that you very seldom have people do.

"And I think frankly, that's part of what has powered Donald Trump's entire political career," Gingrich said. "The people out there who feel the most alienated, whatever his flaws, at least he's standing up fighting for them."

Anthony, who lives in Farmville, Virginia, dropped "Rich Men North of Richmond" on YouTube, and it has so far received over 10 million views and 560,000 likes. The lyrics imply that the titular characters of the song are the politicians in Washington, D.C.

"These rich men north of Richmond / Lord knows they all just want to have total control / Wanna know what you think / Wanna know what you do / And they don't think you know, but I know that you do," the lyrics read. "Cause your dollar ain't s***, and it's taxed to no end / 'Cause of rich men north of Richmond."

The singer performed live in front of a massive crowd Sunday. Along with the live performance, Anthony streamed the event, which has been viewed over 100,000 times, on Rumble.
