It happened. Again.
We’ve seen this movie before: President Donald Trump gives a big speech and knocks it out of the park. In this case, it was his address to the joint session of Congress, which some said was the best of the five addresses he’s given as president.

On Tuesday night, during his address to the joint session of Congress, Trump was relaxed, confident, jovial, and, of course, trolling. The entertainment aspect was off the charts, given the juxtaposition and rancor between the two parties in the chamber.
Rep. Al Green (D-TX) even got tossed out of the chamber after screaming at Trump just minutes into his speech. Democrats also held up what resembled auction signs with messages such as “Musk steals” and “Save Medicaid,” which looked feeble and choreographed.
The worst parts of the evening, however, were what the Democrats didn’t do: applaud obvious bipartisan, commonsense remarks and moments such as Trump honoring former volleyball player Payton McNabb, who suffered traumatic injuries, both physical and mental, including a brain bleed, when she was injured by a biological male playing on a female college team in 2022.
Party members also didn’t applaud when Trump honored victims of those killed by illegal immigrants, including the mother and sister of Laken Riley, who was brutally murdered by a Venezuelan in the country illegally.
But after the address, the Acela media in New York and Washington showed once again they live on another planet. The speech was characterized as “disturbing,” “divisive and “unsettling.” CBS News described the mood in the chamber as “horribly tense.”
Media outlets such as ABC News pronounced it was performing a “live fact-check” throughout the speech, which is something it never did for Trump’s predecessor, former President Joe Biden, for whatever reason (actually, we know why).
Polls showed a much different reality than how many in the media described Trump’s address, his fifth before Congress as president. Check out this one from CBS News and YouGov:
Overall, 76% of people approved of Trump’s speech.
Seventy-seven percent of people supported his plan to cut government waste and spending.
Seventy-seven percent of people backed his immigration and border policies.
Seventy-six percent of people approved of Trump’s speech.
Seventy-six percent of people approved of removing congressmen who interrupted his speech.
Seventy-four percent of people said his speech was presidential.
Seventy-three percent of people supported his stance on Russia and Ukraine.
Sexty-eight percent of people said he has a clear plan to tackle inflation.
Sixty-three percent of people said he focused on matters they care about.
These numbers are obviously off the charts and only further the disconnect between the public and the Fourth Estate. But it was this clip, which has gone viral and then some, in particular, that is patently horrible for a “news” outlet such as MSNBC.
Before getting to the soundbite in question, a quick note: On big nights on cable news, whether it’s an election night or a State of the Union/address to the joint session of Congress, Fox News features actual news anchors to quarterback the conversation (Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum). However, on MSNBC, the anchors are provocative, partisan opinion hosts (Rachel Maddow, Nicolle Wallace).
Maddow has been obsessed with alleged Trump-Russia collusion for eight years, even to the point that Politico dubbed her myopia on the matter as “deep delusion.” This has proven to be a lucrative obsession for the 9:00 p.m. ET host, as she currently gets paid $25 million per year despite returning to working one day per week starting next month.
As for Wallace, she once accused first lady Melania Trump of being either “dead inside” or “paid off” for being married to Trump. She also recently compared Trump’s immigration policy to the Holocaust.
With that backdrop, it’s no surprise that after Trump honored 13-year-old DJ Daniel, who is a brain cancer survivor, as an honorary Secret Service agent on Tuesday night, Maddow and Wallace made some of the most odious and inhumane remarks you’ll see on cable news, and that’s really saying something.
“For the record, and this is disgusting, the president made a spectacle out of praising a young man who thus far survived pediatric cancer, as if the president had something to do with that,” Maddow said.
For the record, Trump took no such credit for Daniel beating brain cancer.
“I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer,” Wallace added. “But I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters, and if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide, and I hope he isn’t one who has to testify against the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and then lived to see Donald Trump pardon those people.”
Yes. Wallace actually took this moment of a young cancer survivor being honored by the sitting president of the United States and turned it on its head by somehow making it about Jan. 6 and suicide.
Repulsive is the only word that came to mind.
There will be no apologies coming from the two “anchors,” of course.
There’s a reason why the Democratic Party is currently polling at 21% approval in the latest survey by Quinnipiac University, marking the lowest number in the poll’s history.
Instead of pivoting to the center, Democrats keep moving to the Left. Their rhetoric has become louder and more provocative but lacks anything in terms of substance or optimism.
TRUMP’S FIRST MONTH WAS A SUCCESS
A leader needs to emerge. Messages and themes consolidated. And its lawmakers must stop taking their cues from the New York Times and MSNBC.
If the disgraceful behavior in the House on Tuesday was any indication, the journey into the political wilderness will only continue to get deeper.
