NextImg:McConnell to remain hospitalized for 'few days' after suffering concussion from fall

Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is expected to remain hospitalized for the next "few days" to be treated for a concussion after the Senate minority leader suffered a fall on Wednesday night, according to his office.

“Leader McConnell tripped at a dinner event Wednesday evening and has been admitted to the hospital and is being treated for a concussion," spokesman David Popp said in a statement. "He is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days of observation and treatment. The Leader is grateful to the medical professionals for their care and to his colleagues for their warm wishes.”

MCCONNELL HOSPITALIZED AFTER FALLING DURING PRIVATE DINNER AT DC HOTEL

The statement is the first update on McConnell's condition since news broke that he tripped at the Waldorf Astoria hotel while attending a private dinner. Republican senators had been left in the dark about McConnell's health status throughout Thursday morning, with many wishing him a swift recovery.

Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) said he was able to learn of McConnell's condition shortly after his spokesman made the statement, noting the GOP leader was "awake" and "talking to people."

“He’s going to be fine," Barrasso said after leaving a GOP lunch where senators were briefed on his condition Thursday. "He's going to be observed, you know, concussion protocol, I expect a full recovery.”

McConnell marks the third senator who will be absent from the upper chamber due to health concerns, as both Sens. John Fetterman (D-PA) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) have also been hospitalized in recent weeks do to health concerns. It's unclear when any of the three will return.

McConnell was previously hospitalized in 2019 after fracturing his shoulder from a fall on his patio at home.
