Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) negotiators will meet at the White House on Wednesday with President Joe Biden’s team to continue discussions on the debt ceiling.

The negotiations have until now taken place at the Capitol, but the two teams have agreed to the change of venue, a source confirmed to the Washington Examiner.

MAKE OR BREAK: THIS WEEK INTO NEXT IS CRITICAL WINDOW FOR DEBT CEILING NEGOTIATIONS

On Tuesday, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) said the reason they were meeting at the Capitol was because House Republicans had already passed a bill raising the debt ceiling, and if they hadn’t, they would be meeting at the White House with their “proverbial hat in hand.”

The country could default on its debt as early as June 1, according to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

Negotiators met Tuesday for a little over two hours in what McCarthy described as a “good talk,” but they’re still far apart on a number of issues, including spending caps and work requirements.

Rep. Garret Graves (R-LA) and McHenry spoke to the team of White House negotiators on the phone throughout the night on Tuesday. The White House negotiating team is composed of Shalanda Young, director of the Office of Management and Budget, Steve Ricchetti, senior adviser to the president, and Louisa Terrell, the director of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs.
