Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas dismissed criticism from Republicans, claiming their "false accusations" don't take away from his record of service.

"I have a very good understanding of who I am and what I am trying to do for our country in leading 260,000 people in the Department of Homeland Security. False accusations do not dent that one bit," he said in an interview published on Friday.

Last month, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) announced the launch of an investigation into Mayorkas’s "dereliction of duty." Republicans in Congress have been pushing to impeach the secretary due to President Joe Biden's border policies.

“I think we’re getting pretty darn close,” Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) said in an interview last month, referencing getting enough votes to support impeaching Mayorkas. “Some people have told me they are now gettable … and they just want to continue talking and dialoguing it and making sure they are comfortable with both the legal and the constitutional predicate.”

Mayorkas brushed off this effort and maintained his pride in his service. “I am incredibly proud of my record in federal service, and I love serving our country," he told Politico.

"This country gave my family, including me, a new life. We fled the communist takeover of Cuba. And it’s a tremendous source of pride for me to have served our country and to continue serving our country. And I have so much admiration and gratitude for the people with whom I work," he added.

Earlier this month, Green divulged some details of his investigation into Mayorkas, revealing there are several informants alleging possible fraud within DHS.

"We've had some people — they're informants at this point," he said. "They're not whistleblowers yet because that triggers a special process, but there's potentially some, some fraud going on in the department, too."
